← back to Wingdings Translation
A symbol font is an ordinary font whose glyphs are drawings instead of letterforms. The underlying text is unchanged.
To translate, you map each character through the font's glyph table back to its expected letter. This is deterministic, which is why converters are fast and reliable.
The main pitfall is mixed fonts: a document that switches between Wingdings and a normal typeface mid-sentence needs the mapping applied per run, not per line.
